Buy treadmills with confidence.
More and
more people buy treadmills. Are you getting ready to get one too?
Features to watch include: Motor size and horsepower. Belt size and
thickness. And don't forget to check the warranty. There is a good
indicator of durability.
Motor:
Big motor is better. Stronger motor is better. Easy? Well, not
entirely. How about the terms continous duty vs treadmill duty?
Continuos duty is what the machine actually delivers consistently over
time while "treadmill duty" is power released over a shorter time span.
Try to find out the continous duty when comparing motor strength.
The
importance of treadmill motor size depends on how heavy you are, if you
are running or walking and how much you will be running. Large and
heavy people who buy treadmills, or frequent runners, should really
never go below 2.0 hp. If you are a bit lighter, mostly walking, or a
less frequent runner, 1.5 hp could do the trick.
Belt:
The same logic applies for belt size and thickness - use common sense
based on your body size and how you will use the treadmill. For those
who buy treadmills now American Council on Exercise recommends at least
two-ply belt, minimum 49 inches long and 17 inches wide.
Computer features:
Most treadmills offer more or less sophisticated computer programs,
where you can monitor speed, time, incline angles etc. More advanced
models also include some kind of heart rate monitor. Some models offer
advanced programming and even downloadable new programs from the
Internet. Consider what you will really need and use.
Warranty:
All of you who will buy treadmills should also consider the warranty
terms. If you use the treadmill regularly it is likely to break down
sooner or later even if it is a really solid machine. Take good care of
your treadmill and look for good warranty terms.
The
warranty ranges from 90 days to lifetime... different for different
manufacturers, but also different for different parts of the treadmill.
A really nice warranty deal is offered here on a good value Keys Treadmill
. Check it out and compare.
Keep in mind that health is a long term investment. Happy hunting.
